My name is Brent Earlewine. I am the Founder and Lead Instructor for the Combat Shillelagh Irish Stick Fighting System and I am glad you are here!
There is nothing I love more than the prospect of helping someone start their own personal journey into the awesome world of Martial Arts just like I did 37+ years ago.
All those years ago, I never imagined I would get this far. My original goal of becoming a Black Belt seemed light years away and I felt like I would never get there, much less getting to Master Level in multiple martial arts.
But I persevered. I ground out the hard work. I invested time, money, blood, sweat and tears. I traveled around the world to train with master instructors.
Then I did it again. And again. And again. And again. (I am STILL doing it!) And I did it while managing a full-time career and raising a family (4 crazy kids!).
Amazing.

Why We Do What We do
Some folks like to scroll all the way down and get the "bottom line". Me too!
I spent my first few years in martial arts at a local Dojo starting in the late 1980's. It was brutal. Watered down instruction, every class was more like a kiddy day care than a training hall. And at the end of the day, it was the same-old / same-old you could find in almost any strip mall in any small town. (The only saving grace was that there happened to be a few REALLY good instructors that took me under their wing).
The material was solid, but the learning environment not so much.
However, I was determined never to quit! I earned my 1st black belt there after 3.5 years of effort, but I swore I would "never again" participate in that kind of environment.
Then I went on a search for more authentic Martial Arts. Ones that had Practical uses and were taught through the lens of Actual Self Defense.
And I found them.
Ever since, I have spent three and a half+ DECADES training with some of the best Martial Artists and Real Violence professionals on the planet. My journey has taken me all over the world and expanded my skills and understanding in ways that a local Dojo most likely never will.
(Sometimes I think I did it the hard way, but I don't regret a second of it).
I have brought ALL of that knowledge to the Shillelagh and our Irish Stick Fighting System. It is why I codified and launched Combat Shillelagh several years ago. And because I know that not everybody has the financial wherewithal or the time to travel to gain the same depth of knowledge in the same way I did, I distilled everything down to the essence and then packaged it so YOU can learn and train from wherever you might be.
Hybrid Distance Learning Programs are THE new way to learn. When you engage all of your senses while learning, it helps you learn FASTER and retain knowledge LONGER.
Is it still going to be hard work? You bet it is. Are you going to EARN your black belt?
